The story of Christ Abides
I wrote the main refrain of 'Christ Abides' during a very busy
season in 2021 amidst working, planning a wedding, and continuing
to write and plan releases. I would try and ignore the growing weariness I felt, feeling as though I didn't have the time to manage it.
After sitting down at the piano one afternoon to let my thoughts rest for a moment, I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to sing 'I have the mind of Christ.'
His revelation began to flow: I have been made one with Christ, raised up with Him to heavenly places, and my thoughts and inner world should now conform to the reality of Jesus. I have access to His peace, His assurance, and His soundness of mind in any given moment. This chorus became a simple refrain that I sang over myself in moments all throughout the year when I felt overwhelmed.
It was something I always knew in my head, but became a truth that altered the state of my heart: Christ abides with me.
The words of the ever-abiding spirit of God take the voice in the bridge of this song, drawing from Isaiah 40:31
Those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
To be raised up on the wings of an eagle is to soar far above the buffeting winds, and instead catch the rising current. It is to have a new, higher perspective, where all of the noise and chaos below is brought to stillness and silence.
My prayer is that as you listen to this song, the peace and presence of Jesus surrounds you and refreshes your weary soul.
